Social worker Emily Jenkins (Zellweger) thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case, troubled 10-year old Lilith Sullivan (Ferland). Emily's worst fears are confirmed when the parents try to kill Lilith, their only daughter. Emily saves her and decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along, only to find out the girl isn't nearly as innocent as she thought.
It is difficult to call this movie a horror or a thriller. No, sometimes it is even scary but not too much. The film is lineal. There's nothing to make people think. It's obvious. Perhaps it would be better with a different structure. Jodelle Ferland who plays Lillith is the best part of the movie. Her conversation with Doug is memorable. Renee Zellweger in her first thriller film is not convincing, it's not the best portraying. Though the movie has some really good supporting cast: the police man and the psychiatrist.
The film has several serious drawbacks. Fistly, the plot. It is not new at all. You'll definitely have an unpleasant feeling of Deja Vu. Secondly, those moments where the girl is shown a real monster with huge hands are not believable. The rest of the film is just correct.
Anyway, it's worth a watch. But don't expect too much.
